White lion triplets born at Polish zoo

A white lioness named Azira has given birth to three cubs at a zoo in Borysew, central Poland.

“Even though Azira is a mother for the first time, she's doing a great job of taking care of her offspring,” the zoo enthused in a statement.

“Thanks to this, the snow-white young lions feel excellent and they're happy to pose for pictures.

White lions are indigenous to the Timbavati region of South Africa, where locals believe the animals to be divine.

Naturalists stress that the lions are not technically albinos, as their colour stems from a recessive trait that is less marked than albinos.

The Borysew zoo has not named the youngsters yet, as it will take some time before the sex of the cubs becomes apparent. (nh)
