Gun-toting former minister arrested drunk at the wheel

A former deputy minister of the interior has been arrested for allegedly firing bullets while drunk at the wheel of his car.

Zbigniew R. (full name withheld under Polish privacy laws) was detained on Sunday night while entering the A2 motorway at Nowy Tomysl, western Poland.
Police had been tipped off by a member of the public that a driver had been seen firing indiscriminate shots into the air.
After the arrest, a section of the road was closed off so that police offers could search for the incriminating cartridges. The gun, for which the suspect had a permit, has been confiscated.
Zbigniew R. served as deputy minister of the interior in 2007 as a member of the Law and Justice party.
He is currently sobering up in police custody. (nh)
