Mateusz M. (full name withheld under Polish privacy laws) is a former employee of the philharmonic hall, having worked there as a technician.

He will not be able to apply for parole for fifty years.

Besides serving a life sentence, Mateusz M. has also been ordered by the district court in Jelenia Gora to pay damages to the families of the victims.

He is to pay 250,000 zloty (59,475 euros) each to the wife and daughter of the 59-year-old security guard, and 500,000 zloty (118,948 euros) to the mother of the 25-year-old harpist.

Mateusz M. entered the Lower Silesian Philharmonic Hall on the night of 7 March 2013.

The harpist, who had travelled from Warsaw, was staying in a guest room, and she was set to perform one concert as a replacement for another musician. Besides robbing both victims, the culprit also raped the harpist. (nh)
