Civic Platform with five percent lead ahead of Euro elections

The ruling Centre-right Civic Platform has a lead of five percent in a new poll, ahead of the European Parliament elections in Poland on Sunday.

The poll by CBOS found that 26 percent of voters intend to vote for Prime Minister Tusk’s party – up five percent from a similar survey by CBOS in late April, with 21 percent declaring they will vote for the more eurosceptic Law and Justice (PiS), Poland’s main opposition party.

In third place is the Democratic Left Aliance – Labour Union (SLD-UP), which is on eight percent, with the current junior coalition partner Polish Peasants Party (PSL) on five percent.

On four percent, the anti-EU ‘New Right’ party is just below the five percent threshold to gain seat sin the European Parliament, and the liberal Europa Plus (Your Movement) on two percent.

Poland will electing 51 of the 751 MEPs to take seats in the European Parliament, with the ballots beginning in the UK and the Netherlands this Thursday, with the rest of the EU to follow at the weekend. (pg)
