The guns were found by chance in April 2014 by diver Mariusz Szymanski.

It is believed they were abandoned in May 1945 during Operation Hannibal.

Over a million German refugees and soldiers were evacuated by boat from Nazi-occupied Poland and East Prussia during the first five months of 1945, as the Red Army advanced across the region.

The three guns include two Infanteriegeschutz 42 models, and one Infanteriegeschutz 18, most probably abandoned by Germany's 83rd Infantry Division (83 Infanterie-Division).

The artillery is due to undergo maintenance at Gdynia's Naval Museum. (nh)
