The staggeringly long sausage stretched to a mighty 226 metres after cooking, weighing in at 335 kg.

It took chefs three and a half hours to prepare, cook and measure the monster.

The previous world record, which was made in the Spanish city of Burgos in 2013 (175 metres after cooking), was decisively obliterated.

Blood sausage (kaszanka or kiszka in Polish) is a highly popular dish in Poland, and it is thought to have become fashionable in the 17th Century, prior to which it was already a staple German dish.

After the world record was announced, the dish was duly divided up and consumed by locals. (nh)
