A new survey released by TNS Polska reveals that Poles’ support for President Komorowski has dropped to 50 percent, while a positive appraisal for Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s work in office was only given by 22 percent of Poles.

However, 38 percent of Poles gave a negative opinion of Komorowski. The president’s positive ratings have fallen by four percentage points since June, but continue to be very high when compared to those of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his cabinet.

The Prime Minister’s work is given a negative appraisal by 69 percent of respondents, with the performance of his cabinet given a thumbs down by as many as 73 percent of Poles.

According to TNS Polska, the government’s falling popularity is the result of the ‘tape scandal’, the recent publication of secretly-recorded conversations between top-ranking politicians, which proved embarrassing for some members of Mr Tusk’s cabinet.

The survey was carried out between 11-16 July on a representative selection of 1,000 Poles aged 15 and above. (jb/mk)
