“The bodies belonged to people from the criminal underworld, and they most likely fell victim to feuds connected with the old Pruszkow gang and the subsequent 'Mutants' gang,” a statement released by the municipal police concluded.

Police estimate the apparent killings took place in the late 1990s.

The bodies were buried no more than half a metre below the ground at a property in Szamoty, which lies 12 km south of Pruszkow.

The so-called Pruszkow gang emerged in the Warsaw suburb in the early 1990s, shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Pruszkow has taken up the investigation to determine the circumstances of the deaths. (nh)
