Primary reports indicate that the incident happened during exercises undertaken by Ukrainian border guards.

Polish regional border guard spokesperson, Major Elzbieta Pikor told the Polish Press Agency that the bullets were most probably misfired by the Ukrainians during the exercises and ended up hitting the house.

According to police at the scene, the bullet was fired from a machine gun, while Pikor added that the machine gun shell was fired from a Kalashnikov assault rifle.

The incident comes after Ukrainian border guards on Tuesday alerted their Polish counterparts that they would be engaging in exercises close to the border.

“In practice, we always inform each other of all activity in border areas,” Pikor said.

Police are now investigating the incident under the supervision of prosecutors. (jb)
