Firefighters were asked to intervene more than 120 times in the Malopolska region during the heavy rainfall on Tuesday night. They had to pump water out of cellars and help people leave buildings that were flooded.
The situation was the worst in the Myslenice county, south of Krakow, where more than ten houses were flooded. Damages were also recorded in a hospital in Szczyrzyc, in another part of the region and a gas pipeline was uncovered in Kasinka Mała.
The weather was also unfavourable in other parts of Poland. Cases of flooding were recorded in two northern voivodships, Warminsko-Mazurskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie. There were altogether 760 firefighter interventions across the country.
More rainy weather is expected in Poland on Wednesday, especially in the south eastern part of the country. During storms there may be strong winds, up to 80 kilometres an hour. Stormy weather should ease down by Thursday. (kw/pg)
