Warsaw celebrates 'Cavalry Day'

A parade of cavalry to the Tomb of the Unknown soldier in Warsaw marked the historic Battle of Komarow, seen as a decisive turning point in Poland's victory over the Soviet Red Army in 1920.

On 30 August of that year, Poland's forces, led by Juliusz Rómmel, won the largest cavalry battle of the 20th century near Zamosc, south east Poland over the numerically superior Russian 1st Cavalry.

Celebrations of the event continue on Sunday at the Hippodrome racing track, where there are picnics and riding displays. (pg)
