PM-designate Ewa Kopacz, who is taking over to the lead the centre-right Civic Platform/PSL coalition after the election of Donald Tusk as president of the EU's European Council, is meeting with President Komorowski at 7 pm local time in Warsaw, where she will present a list of candidates to lead ministries till the next scheduled election in Poland next autumn.

Kopacz, a former health minister and current speaker of the lower house of parliament (Sejm), will then announce the names to the public on Friday morning.

Media speculation has reached fever pitch as to who will be filling the new posts and who will be sacked.

Deputy prime minister Janusz Piechociński, who also leads the junior coalition partner Polish Peasants Party (PSL) told the TVP broadcaster on Thursday there will be “great surprises in the selection of candidates” in what will be “a new government”.

Kopacz has said she will present her 'expose', or policy statement laying out the goals of the new government for the next 12 months, to parliament on 1 October when there will be a vote of confidence in the cabinet. (pg)
