Aleksander G. (full name withheld under Polish privacy laws) is to be charged with 'incitement to murder', according to Artur Wrona of the Krakow Appellate Prosecutor's Office.

Wrona told the Polish Press Agency (PAP) that no further details can be disclosed at present.

However, it is suspected that Aleksander G. paid a third party to abduct and kill the journalist.

The detained man is a businessman who served as a senator from 1993-1997. In 2004 he was given an eight-year prison sentence for tax evasion.

Jaroslaw Zietara was an investigative journalist from Poznan who wrote about economic scandals.

He disappeared on his way to work on 1 September 1992.

His body was never found, but in 1998, Poznan prosecutors concluded that the journalist had been abducted and murdered. (nh)
