Two females came from Bern, Switzerland, while a lone male arrived from the zoo in Bochum, Germany.

The new arrivals are all harbour seals (Phoca vitulina), also known as common seals.

They typically inhabit the Atlantic, as well as the North Pacific. However, they can also be found in the North Sea and the western part of the Baltic.

The zoo also has a number of brown fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus), also known as the South African fur seals.

Wroclaw Zoo is currently the only institution in Poland to house both varieties. (nh)
