Polish parliament was the scene of fairly unparliamentary exchanges between MPs from left- and right-wing opposition parties during the budget debate on Wednesday night.

Andrzej Rozenek of the socially liberal Your Movement (Twój Ruch), took the floor to protest against Krystyna Pawlowicz, an MP for the conservative Law and Justice (PiS) party known for her extreme views and violent language, eating in the chamber.

Rozenek’s motion for a five-minute break to allow the MP time to remove her dirty cutlery produced a wider conflagration.

The leader of PiS, Jaroslaw Kaczynski then took the floor to be told to “sit down, you squirt” by an MP. He is somewhat shorter than most politicians.

The speaker has declined to punish any MPs for their behaviour during the budget debate. (an)
