The body was discovered at about 1 pm local time in the River Liwiec in Kapusciaki, not far from Mokobody.

The brothers, aged 12 and 15, had told their parents on Monday that they were going to pay a visit to a cousin.

However, several hours later, after no sign of the pair, the police were called.

Scuba divers had been searching the River Liwiec since Monday, after it was suggested that the boys might have been skating on the frozen waters.

However, no trace of the boys was found in the first few days of the search.

Meanwhile, police also followed up reports of sightings of the boys on a train to Warsaw, after their likenesses were published by media outlets. (nh)
