With just a few months until the presidential elections, the candidates are pulling out all the stops to try to secure a win.

Incumbent President Bronisław Komorowski has a budget of PLN 15 million (USD 4.1 million) for his campaign. This figure is head and shoulders above the funds allocated for the campaigns of other candidates.

In second place in terms of budget, is Law and Justice’s (PiS) Andrzej Duda, with PLN 10 million.

Meanwhile Democratic Left Alliance’s (SLD) Magdalena Ogórek and Adam Jarubas from Polish People’s Party (PSL) have at their disposal PLN 1.5 million and PLN one million respectively.

Dziennik Gazeta Prawna summerises this data by saying that “if election results depended solely on budgets, then Bronisław Komorowski is the clear winner”.

This assumption seems to be on the mark, as Komorowski enjoys the support of 62 percent of the electorate. If the election were to be held today, Andrzej Duda and Magdalena Ogórek would garner 18 percent and 8 percent respectively.

While low, the latter result is quite positive for a politician with practically no hands-on experience, remarks the daily.

On Wednesday, the Speaker of the Sejm lower house of Parliament, Radosław Sikorski, announced that the election will be held on 10 May. (rg)
