“The initiative has the aim of coordinating methods to access data which concerns many aspects of the functioning of the city. They will be available online,” said Paulina Sobieszuk, from the TechSoup Foundation, which is developing the ‘Warsaw Data’ project.

Sobieszuk added that the initiative is also designed to help those who want to create apps based on openly and easily available city data.

Interested parties will be able to submit ideas for mobile apps which will draw on this data until 31 March.

The ‘Warsaw Data’ project has so far collected information from 700 sources.

Meanwhile the city of Gdańsk is cooperating with the Fundacją ePaństwo (e-State Foundation) to set up a website called ‘Open Gdańsk', which contains information about the city’s budget.

Magdalena Siwanowicz from Fundacją ePaństwo commented that “this will allow for greater engagement [of residents] in the city’s affairs as well as facilitating new social and business initiatives which use public data.” (sl/rg)
