“As is the case on such occasions, I want to thank those of you to whom I owe this award. I have to honestly say that this is such a prize which encompasses all of Polish society,” Tusk said in a pre-recorded video message, since he could not attend in person.

“I became the President of the European Council mainly because the reputation of Poland – thanks to your efforts – has become so high and convincing, that we could achieve this shared success,” the politician, who now works in Brussels, concluded.

Other laureates of the Super Wiktor, for their life achievements, included journalists Stefan Bratkowski and Jacek Żakowski, current head of national broadcaster TVP, Juliusz Braun, film director Krzysztof Zanussi, and linguist prof. Jerzy Bralczyk.

This year marked the thirtieth edition of the Wiktor awards for outstanding achievements in politics, sports, culture, journalism and entertainment. (rg)
