A third of Poles believe the experience of John Paul II’s death made people better, a poll shows.

As many as 34 percent of respondents said the people are better as a result of experiencing the death of Karol Wojtyła, the priest from southern Poland who served as Pope John Paul II over 1979-2005, polling firm TNS reports.

A narrow majority of 56 percent hold the opposite view with a mere 14 percent saying that people have “definitely” not improved.

The results are connected to intensity of religious feeling with 39 percent of believers saying that “our pope’s” death has made people better, a view shared by a quarter of those who are not observant in any religion. (an)
