Ewa Kopacz has said that during her six months as prime minister, the parliamentary opposition has denied any cooperation in what she called “important matters for the Polish people”.

The comment came as she delivered a review of her half-year term as prime minister.

Kopacz underlined that her government had dealt with issues which in her opinion did not divide Poles, saying that “these are issues which call for cooperation”.

However, she did say that “there is still a chance for cooperation to happen”.

“I will continue to be open to dialogue,” Kopacz said, despite her lamenting the fact that the opposition blocked her calls for more spending to be included in this year’s budget on pre-schools and education.

Speaking after a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, Kopacz also added that 50 percent of her policy plans had been put into action since she took over as prime minister following Donald Tusk’s appointment as President of the European Council.

“I took over the premiership at an unusual moment, a year before the end of the parliamentary term and I laid out a plan which I can say, with utmost responsibility, is rational, specific and free of demagoguery”. (jb)
