Fewer and fewer Polish children are being vaccinated. In 2011, the number was close to 3,000, while last year the figure had grown to 13,000.
The reasons why many parents are deciding not to vaccinate their children include an opposition to vaccination (usually because of media reports that vaccinations could be related to some conditions like autism), as well as a small percentage of parents whose children are exempt from this requirement, because of medical reasons (serious illness, allergy).
Every voidvoidship decides on the kind if fine which it hands out to parents who consciously decide not to vaccinate their kids. These fines range from a minimum of PLN 100 (EUR 25) to a maximum of PLN 5,000. (rg)
