In 2014, foreigners bought, more than 1,000 ha of land in Poland; nearly 50 percent of this was purchased by Dutch nationals, according to the most recent report of the Interior Ministry.

Foreigners need to apply to the Ministry in order to purchase real estate. They must show they have legitimate links to Poland, such as dual citizenship, being married to a Pole, or conduct business in Poland.

The number of permits issued for the acquisition of land has remained generally unchanged over recent years.

Permits were given for the purchase of real estate in the regions of Wielkopolska (194 ha), Lubuski (163 ha), Warmia and Mazury (159 ha), Łódzkie (91 ha), Mazowieckie (78 ha), and Pomerania (75 ha).

“Given the number of permits issued, Ukrainian and German buyers were by far the most numerous. At a total of 271 permits granted to natural and legal persons for the acquisition of land in 2014, approximately 35 percent were given to Ukrainian and German citizens,” highlighted a report published by the Ministry.

However, Dutch capital bought the largest area of land last year – 484 ha, which represents nearly half of the land for which permits were issued. (rg)
