Knurów rioters attack police

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Knurów to protest the death of 27-year-old man who died after police fired rubber bullets at crowds of hooligans on Saturday.

Several police officers were injured and five police cars and vans damaged in the protest, which saw Molotov cocktails and rocks being thrown at police.
Many of the rioters gathered in front of the hospital of Kutno in south western Poland.
“Around 200 people suddenly gathered in front of the hospital. They came running with Molotov cocktails, among other things. We have already arrested several people,” a police spokesperson said.
The riot was a response to the death of a 27-year-old man following a fight during a football match on Saturday.
“At around 5.30 pm [on Saturday] during a football match in Knurów between local Concordia and Ruch Radzionków saw some rules being broken. The home fans started throwing objects onto the pitch and then stormed the playing field. In order to prevent the escalation of aggression, police officers on site shot rubber bullets [at the crowd],” said Andrzej Gąska, from the Silesia police.
Thirty people were arrested in the Sunday riots. (rg)
