Police spokesman Andrzej Gąska has stated that groups of young men in their twenties attacked police at the local station twice last night, throwing stones, bottles and metal objects.

Monday's disturbances followed the detainment of 30 people as a result of rioting on Sunday.

A 27-year-old man died on Saturday in Knurów during a fourth division match between local side Concordia and Ruch Radzionków.

Concordia fans had charged onto the pitch towards opposition fans, prompting police to fire rubber bullets in an apparent bid to see off a large scale clash.

Cause of fan's death internal bleeding

Meanwhile, Piotr Żak, a spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Gliwice, has confirmed following an autopsy that “a gunshot wound was found on [the victim's] right arm.

Damage to blood vessels caused massive internal bleeding,” he said.

Although no bullet was found in the deceased man's body, Żak noted that the wound appeared to have been caused by a rubber bullet.

Spokesperson for the interior ministry Małgorzata Woźniak has said the department “regrets that such a tragic incident took place,” causing “a huge blow to his nearest and dearest.” The ministry is waiting for the police report, and Woźniak has appealed for calm. (nh)
