Poll: PSL and SLD could not have seats in parliament

The poll conducted by Millward Brown for the TVN broadcaster sees the governing Civic Platform Party (PO) and conservative opposition party Law and Justice (PiS) lead with 25 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, the newly set up Kukiz'15 party, led by rock musician Paweł Kukiz trails close behind at 20 percent. Kukiz came in surprise third place in the 10 May presidential elections, garnering almost 21 percent of the ballot.

Another party, which was recently founded by economists Ryszard Petru and Leszek Balcerowicz, would get five percent of the vote if Poles were to go to the polling stations this coming Sunday, the Millward Brown survey said.

The poll was also a surprise for at least two established parties, the Polish People's Party (PSL) and the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD). The two parties enjoy the support of four percent and three percent of the electorate respectively.

Such a result would not see them win any seats in the Polish lower house of Parliament, the Sejm, TVN reports.

SLD's candidate for the presidential elections, Magdalena Ogórek got a mere 2.4 percent of the vote in the 10 May elections. The party has already met to discuss changes ahead of the autumn parliamentary elections. The head of Ogórek's electoral team, and deputy head of the party, Leszek Aleksandrzak, has submitted his resignation.

“The Board of SLD decided that the result obtained by Magdalena Ogórek is woefully inadequate. We apologise to those who felt disappointed with this candidacy,” the party leader, Leszek Miller said on Saturday. (rg)
