Komorowski with the upper hand?

One poll, undertaken by TNS for the Gazeta Wyborcza daily, gives 42 percent to Komorowski, while 31 percent of viewers believe that rival Duda fared better in the debate.

As many as 19 percent of viewers believe the debate ended in a draw while 8 percent had no comment.

The telephone poll was undertaken on a selection of 1,000 adult Poles after the debate had finished on Thusday evening.

Meanwhile, a similar poll on a representative selection of 784 people undertaken by Millward Brown for TVN reveals gives 45 percent for Komorowski and 30 percent for Andrzej Duda.

As many as 25 percent of respondents could not decide who won the debate.

Victory for Duda?

Paweł Kukiz, a rock musician and political activist who garnered more than 20 percent of the vote in the first round of the presidential elections on 10 May, said that Andrzej Duda came out on top in the debate.

He told conservative broadcaster TV Republika that “In my opinion, Duda fared better in [Thursday’s] debate, but this is my private opinion. People who voted for me could have a different opinion, each of these people will evaluate reality,” Kukiz said.

Kukiz has said several times that he would not endorse any single candidate in the second round of the elections, but the votes he received could be crucial for either candidate to win the election on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a poll published by the Dziennik Polski daily says that Andrzej Duda would win the election if Poles were to go to the ballot on Friday. The Law and Justice candidate enjoys the support of 51 percent of the electorate, against Komorowski’s 49 percent, the daily reported.

The results mirror an online poll conducted by the website of broadcaster RMF FM, which asked its readers who won the debate on Thursday.

As many as 61 percent of the people who voted in the poll said that Andrzej Duda was the more convincing candidate. Only 39 percent of the respondents said that Komorowski’s arguments were stronger than those of his opponent. (jb/rg)
