On-duty policemen were perplexed when the 28-year-old appeared at the station brandishing a pizza after the latter drove by car to the address shortly after 5 pm on Thursday.

The officers insisted that no food or beverages had been ordered.

However, while the driver was trying to explain himself, the policemen noticed a waft of alcohol.

The driver was duly tested and he was found to be over the limit.

As it turned out, the bogus order had been made by one of the man's previous customers from that afternoon. Convinced that the man was drunk, the customer came up with the police station ruse to get the sozzled employee into custody.

As we can see, it was an interesting idea that turned out to be effective,” commented Deputy Inspector Jerzy Długosz. (nh)
