Better educated urban residents voted for Bronisław Komorowski, while Andrzej Duda’s voter base was more rural with lower education, the Ipsos exit polls reveals.

As many as 54.9 percent of the electorate with a higher education voted for Bronisław Komorowski, data from pollsters Ipsos indicated, while Duda – who went on to win Sunday’s election – received 66.8 percent of the votes from those with basic or high-school education.

Andrzej Duda saw the largest support in the Podkarpackie region in south eastern Poland, with as many as 70.4 percent of the voters there supporting the Law and Justice (PiS) candidate.

Outgoing president Bronisław Komorowski won most of the votes – 61.6 percent – in the Opole voivodship in southern Poland.

Other regions where President-elect Duda enjoyed very high support included Lubleskie (64.4 percent) and Świętokrzyskie (63.8 percent).

Meanwhile in Małopolskie and Podlaskie, Duda received 62.7 and 62.8 percent of the votes respectively.

Komorowski saw high support in the aforementioned Opolskie (61.6 percent), Wielkopolskie (56.4 percent), West Pomeranian voivodeship (56.3 percent) and the Pomeranian region (56.4 percent).

Behind bars

Bronisław Komorowski was by far the most popular candidate among prison voters, gaining 82.7 percent of the ballot. His opponent Andrzej Duda received the votes of 14.8 percent of those who voted from inside prisons around the country on Sunday. This data was released by the Central Board of Prison Service, and reported by the PAP news agency.

The State Electoral Commission (PKW) is expected to publish the final election results at 6.00 pm CET on Monday. (rg)
