The poll by Millward Brown indicates that in a general election, 17 percent of respondents would vote for Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz's party.

Meanwhile, conservative opposition party Law and Justice, fresh from the success of its candidate Andrzej Duda in the presidential election, has 25 percent support.

In mid-May, Millward Brown found that both parties had 25 percent backing.

In another blow to Civic Platform, respondents gave considerable support to veteran rock star Paweł Kukiz, who garnered 20 percent in the latest poll.

After his surprise breakthrough in the first round of the presidential election, Kukiz announced that he intends to run candidates in the general election, which is scheduled for the autumn.

Meanwhile, the recently created “Nowoczesna.pl” civic association, formed by economists Leszek Balcerowicz and Ryszard Petru, together with centrist politician Władysław Frasyniuk, would garner 10 percent.

The Democratic Left Alliance would manage just 4 percent, thus failing to cross the 5 percent threshold needed to enter Poland's lower house of parliament.

Maverick MEP Janusz Korwin and his eponymous KORWiN party would also take 4 percent, while nunior coalition partner the Polish People's Party would manage just 3 percent. The liberal Your Movement party, the third biggest formation in parliament following the 2011 general election, now has just 2 percent support. (nh)
