As many as 54 percent of Poles are against the introduction of the European common currency, associating it with something evil, a new poll shows.

Sixty eight percent of those surveyed by TNS Polska said that if Poland were to join the eurozone, it would have a deteriorating effect on their domestic finances.

The report released on Tuesday shows that 13 percent of respondents believe that the introduction of the euro would be a positive one, and almost a quarter (23 percent) believes that the replacement of the złoty to the euro will be neither a good thing nor a bad thing.

At the same time, 10 percent of the respondents said that the introduction of the euro in Poland will have a beneficial effect on their households. Eleven percent of those surveyed believe that the adoption of the euro will not have any impact on the situation of their household.

Compared with the results obtained in March, the June survey showed a “decrease in percentage of people who believe that the impact of the change in currency will be beneficial (a drop of four percentage points),” the report read. (rg)
