The head of government travelled by train to the coast in northern Poland to start her canvassing.

PM Kopacz seeks to talk to regular citizens and consult with them ideas to be included in Civic Platform's (PO) upcoming political programme.

"I will be where the people are right now, which means the coast in the summer, but also the mountains in the south,” Kopacz said.

"I will cover the distances by train, travelling alongside hundreds of other passengers. This will give me the opportunity to talk to the people. These discussions and consultations are necessary to verify our concepts and come up with a truly civic political programme.”

A visit to the coastal city of Słupsk was the key item on Saturday's agenda. Kopacz met city mayor Robert Biedroń, along with other top regional officials, to discuss ways of combating the municipality's financial woes. The city is struggling with a debt incurred under the previous mayor followed a failed investment in a local water park.

Meanwhile, Law and Justice's candidate for the post of prime minister, Beata Szydlo, who kicked off her campaign last Monday, travelled to the southern city of Bełchatów on Saturday, accompanied by her fellow party members. (aba/rg)
