Gowin told the Katowice gathering, which brought together the main opposition party PiS’s new allies in the upcoming election, that the election victory of PiS candidate Andrzej Duda in May’s presidential elections was a “great breakthrough” for Poland and was something upon which the new right of centre grouping "must build."

"We need good changes – one that Poles have been waiting for a long time,” Gowin said.

“Some of us have even given up hope of achieving them. This is a meeting of those who believe that changes can and must be made.”

If elections were held now, 38 percent of Poles would vote for the centre-right opposition grouping of PiS and the United Right (ZP), giving it an overall parliamentary majority. (jh)
