“Long workouts, training which was often brutal, as well as being kept in small circus wagons led to problems with the animals’ tendons and muscles which are already beyond repair,” said Aleksander Niweliński, the director of the Zoological Gardens in Poznań.

Niweliński added that the bears will now be able to have a chance to return to physical and mental health.

“What we now can do for these bears, is to make sure that they have a decent retirement,” the zoo’s director said.

The new bears will shortly join two other bears already at the zoo, Misza and Borys. (rg)
