Post office explosion 'accidental'

Counter-terrorism police were called to a post office in Otmuchów, south west Poland, on Friday afternoon after a parcel blew up, but initial findings suggest the explosion was accidental.

Employees were removing parcels from a courier's delivery van at the post office when the explosion occurred.
One of the packages blew up, shattering the windows of two nearby cars and a neighbouring building.
The courier himself had to be treated in hospital, but he is not in a life-threatening condition.
Although counter-terrorism police from Opole were called to the site, it emerged that the explosion had been caused by CO2 cartridges for an air gun.
“It was probably an accident,” commented police spokesperson Karol Brandys.
“The high temperature in the car may have contributed to the explosion,” noted firefighter Captain Paweł Gotkowski.
Police are currently clarifying whether the cartridges had been transported in the correct way. (nh)
