Former Sejm speaker Radosław Sikorski has announced that he will not run in the 25 October general elections.
Sikorski had previously acted as Polish foreign minister but resigned from the position of speaker of the Sejm, the lower house of parliament following the release of sensitive documents related to the so-called finance tape affair.
“I decided that I will not run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. I thank all the residents of Bydgoszcz [his constituency – ed.] for the fact that for I have had the honour to represent them for over a decade,” the politician tweeted.
Sikorski was until recently a key member of the ruling Civic Platform party, and still acts as the party's deputy head. (rg)
