On Saturday, Warsaw police responded to a call about a man who fell into the river from the Świętokrzyski bridge after he tried to take a picture mid-air on his mobile phone.

Local news stations have reported that the 31-year-old man from Bytom in south-western Poland was walking with a group of friends across the bridge to a concert by Australian rock supergroup AC/DC which was held at the National Stadium in Warsaw.

Warsaw authorities searched for the man's body throughout Sunday, but were forced to interrupt the search after sundown.

The Vistula is Poland's longest river and contains many strong and unpredictable currents.

This is not the first such case. Recently a 25-year-old man survived a jump where he took a similar selfie mid-air. (rg/rk)
