Special services eye 200 terrorists

The special services are monitoring 200 people that could pose a terrorist threat to Poland, with Chechans topping the list.

The 200 people are reportedly those that have some association with Poland and are also in some way associated with Islamic State (IS).
Jacek Gawryszewski, deputy head of the ABW (the Internal Security Agency), the domestic intelligence agency, presented a secret report last week to MPs.
TVN24 reported that the report contained the names of 200 people in Poland who have a connection with Poland and IS.
“An example of this threat is the investigation being undertaken jointly by the Special Services and the Appeal Prosecutor in Białystok,” an unnamed source told the channel.
“Not much is known, and the investigations are exceptionally delicate. What is known only is that in the spring three Chechens were detained. Their main task was to collect funds from the Chechen diaspora in Poland."
Between five and ten Poles who have converted to Islam are also reportedly on the list.
The new ABW co-ordinator Marek Biernacki has said his main task is to counteract the threat of terrorism. (jh/rk)
