If the Polish general elections were held this month, a coalition of three conservative parties led by opposition Law and Justice (PiS), would receive 47.1 percent of the vote.

According to a survey carried out by GfK Polonia pollster, the Prime Minister’s Civic Platform (PO) is well behind, with 30.3 percent support.

The only other party to enter the Parliament is an emerging grouping formed by rock musician Paweł Kukiz which can count on a 10.5 percent support, dropping by more than four percentage points from a similar poll conducted a month ago.

The Polish People’s Party, the junior partner in the present ruling coalition, as well as the newly-formed NowoczesnaPL, the brainchild of economist Ryszard Petru, and United Left are well below the five percent threshold that is required to gain parliamentary representation.

The survey was conducted between 10 and 14 July on a group of 1,020 Poles who declared their commitment to take part in the elections. Twenty nine percent of the respondents said they would not take part.

The parliamentary election is scheduled for 25 October. (mk/rg)
