Rescuers on Sunday resumed the search for a man who sailed a yacht in the area of Sobieszewo island near the city of Gdansk in northern Poland.

At the time of writing, it was unclear what had happened to the man, the TVN broadcaster said, adding that photos were sent in to the station of the yacht adrift at sea.

The information was confirmed by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Gdynia.

“We received a call after 8:00 pm [on Saturday]. The yacht drifted aground on the beach,” said spokesman Edmund Kosiarz.

“A motorboat was piloted to the yacht on Sunday and towed it to the Academic Nautical Club in Gdynia,” said Janusz Maziarz from Maritime Search and Rescue Service.

The S&R operation includes a military boat, as well as a vessel from the Border Guards. (rg/rk)
