“I am not in favour of a revolution in foreign policy, but there will be corrections, some of them deep-going,” Duda told the Polish Press Agency.

He said he envisions a Poland which is active on the international scene.

“Poland is not a world power but is one of the largest European countries, a nation of 38 million people and a sizeable community of Poles abroad, with whom the Polish state should start working closely together.”

Andrzej Duda said he would like to see a new formula of talks on Ukraine with Poland’s participation and the shaping of relations with Germany and France on the basis of partnership.

“Partnership means a respect for mutual interests,” Duda stressed.

He also said that he would like concrete decisions aimed at strengthening NATO’s presence in Poland and the whole Central-Eastern Europe to be taken at next year’s summit of the alliance in Warsaw.

President elect Duda confirmed his participation in next month’s UN General Assembly session in New York.

Duda will assume office on 6 August. (mk/rg)
