The man, who has been preliminarily arrested for three months, tried to carry out the heist on 11 August.

He entered the bank on the central Jerozilimskie Avenue at 9:00 am and marched straight up to one of the cashiers.

The foreign man pulled a piece of paper from his pocket, revealing a drawing of a gun to the female employee.

He then brandished a second sheet of paper, on which he had written a warning (originally in broken Polish):

This is a robbery I have a gun give me all the money.”

The woman calmly told the man to wait at the back of the queue, and the Briton duly obliged.

In the meantime, the cashier called the police and the would be assailant was arrested shortly thereafter. (nh/rk)
