“One learns throughout one's entire life, regardless of what profession one carries out,” the president said, alluding to the words of the late Polish pontiff John Paul II, patron of the school.
He added that if one wants to do well in a profession and be respected, then it is necessary to learn all the time.
The president reflected that his own wife, formerly a teacher in Kraków, had had to suspend her teaching career, owing to his election in May.
“But she will certainly return to it some time, because she loves it,” he added.
Prime Minister on junk food ban
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz visited a primary school in Gdańsk, where she referred to the newly enforced law banning junk food in school canteens and shops.
“I did something that probably not everyone will be happy about,” she said.
“But I took care of it so that when you reach a serious and mature age, you won't be 'fatties', to put it colloquially.
“You'll probably regret this though as much as the end of the holidays,” she added. (nh/rk)
