The aid for Poland is the fifth largest in the Union but around half that earmarked for France and Germany.

Minister Sawicki already last week said he was disappointed with the amount of aid that Brussels decided to offer farmers. At that time it was not clear, however, how the sum of EUR 500 million would be divided among the Member States. Warsaw wanted Brussels to take into account the drought occurring in Poland and accordingly increase the aid allocated to it.

However, the European Commission only partially took into account these arguments. European Commissioner for Agriculture, Phil Hogan, said at Tuesday's informal meeting of ministers in Luxembourg that as much as 80 percent of the factors determining the allocation was the amount of milk quotas over the last year.
