Some 2,000 protesters drove their way to the city center along five key transport routes, moving at a sluggish pace, leaving hundreds of cars stranded in traffic and prompting passengers of public transport to continue their journey on foot.

Dubbed, the 'stellar protest', the demonstration was launched at 7 am local time at five districts spread across the city, with the routes taken mimicking a star on the map.

At midday, the protesters are to reach the Parliament building to speak out against unlicensed taxi operators posing unfair competition to their registered peers.

The taxi drivers demand greater state control and fines for companies that fail to pay taxes for their transport services. The protesters demand legislation be changed before the end of the current parliamentary term. (aba/rk)
