Presidential secretary Krzysztof Szczerski told a press conference that Pope Francis invited the Polish President to visit Vatican City, the seat of the Holy See.

However, Federico Lombardi SJ, the director of the Holy See press office, said that it is not the Pope who invites foreign leaders to the Vatican.

“Usually heads of state and other politicians ask about such a possibility. I do not think the Pope issued an individual invitation. Of course, Pope Francis stresses that all are welcome and this could be why someone might feel [personally] invited,” Lombardi said.

On Saturday, President Duda flew to New York to attend the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. The Pope will address the UNGA on Tuesday. (rg/rk/di)
