In March 2015 Kamiński was sentenced for abusing his position to three years in prison and a 10 year ban from holding public office.

He had appealed the decision by the court. Mariusz Kamiński was appointed on Monday to the position of Member of the Council of Ministers.

“This is the first time that a president did not wait for the judgment of the court,” said professor Zbigniew Ćwiąkalski, a former Justice Minister.

“This was done in accordance with the law, but next time, the president may want to issue a blank pardon,” Ćwiąkalski told the TVN24 news station.

“The president's decision is a symbol of restoration of integrity to public life,” Kamiński said on Tuesday.

Tuesday marked the first 100 days of the presidency of Andrzej Duda. (rg/di)
