The Social Cohesion Survey 2015 revealed that students are the most satisfied group, at 87 percent, while the unemployed and people receiving disability benefits are the least at 64 percent and 56 percent respectively.

Poles are also divided by age, with an association between older age and lower satisfaction with life. Around 85 percent of those aged 16-24 claimed to be satisfied, compared to 71 percent of over 75s.

The survey looked into the possible causes of satisfaction with life. Poles were noted to be most satisfied about their relations with other people, with 84 percent declaring themselves to be happy about their relations with friends and colleagues.

However according to the survey Poles are noticeably unhappy about their financial situation. Only 37 percent of respondents said that they were satisfied with this part of their life, while 1 in 3 said that they were not.

When asked whether or not they are ‘optimistic about the future,’ some 2 in 3 Poles answered in the affirmative while just 8 percent stated that they are not.

The poll was conducted in the first half of 2015, using a sample of almost 14,000 people aged 16 or over. (sl/nh/rk)
