According to Alicja Śledziona, spokesperson for the police in the Mazovia (Warsaw) province, the man has claimed that he is looking after the 3-year-old boy.
“It does not change the fact that the child is still being searched for,” Śledziona said.
“We are trying to ascertain his whereabouts,” she added.
The 3-year-old, named only as Fabian, was apparently abducted by three masked men in Radom, central Poland, at just before 7:00 am on Tuesday.
The child was taken from a stairwell in a block of flats in the city. His mother had been taking him for a morning walk.
It is understood that the parents had been involved in a custody battle over the child. (nh/rk)
