He was attending commemorations marking the 185th anniversary of the November Uprising, when the Poles rebelled against the occupying Russia in 1830-1831.

The Defence Minister stressed that the November Uprising was a war for independence – a battle which has not ended since.

As he said, the present war obliges us to “rebuild the inner strength of the nation, to rebuild the strength of the army and rebuild the strength of the Polish economy, so that Poland will never again depend on external forces; for Poland to be dependent solely on its own abilities, its own fortitude, its patriotism and its own economic and military strength.”

In a separate event on Sunday, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the repair of the Polish army is “continuing and will be completed”.

"The plan for the recovery of the Polish army is continuing, and this repair – I am certain of this – will be completed,” President Duda said during a ceremony in Warsaw to mark Officer Cadet Day. (rg/rk)
